Graduation Musings

What a crazy good time it's been.  I finished my Master of Science in Nursing, and will soon begin my career as a pediatric nurse practitioner. I don't really feel that different just yet, but I think after the next couple of months fly by, this change may seem more real. Things were so different when I began this program. The past couple years have been some of the best, but most trying times in my life.  Time and Trust have been healing on the soul and heart.

Graduation weekend coincided perfectly with Mother's Day, so it was nice to celebrate two events with my family. They drove in on a rainy Thursday, and stayed through Sunday. Highlights from the visit included visiting the Dallas Farmer's market, eating some yummy barbeque, and visiting with my parents' college friends who live in town.

The Farmer's Market was a little empty, but it may have been due to the fact that it was a weekday and late in the morning when we arrived.  We ate lunch at Pecan Lodge, and it was the first time I have stood in line for barbeque. We arrived about 30 minutes before the restaurant opened, and there were already people camped out in folding chairs waiting for them to start serving.  The food was pretty good, but I now know that I am not the one to write a review or give any kind of rating about the quality of barbeque.  I know what bad barbeque tastes like, but most of the time, it all tastes pretty good to me.  I enjoy Sammy's BBQ, but I think it's because I love their sides more than anything.

My graduation ceremony was held on the main Texas Woman's University campus in Denton, TX. All of my classes were in the health sciences building in Dallas, so I had only visited Denton a handful of times for a wedding and a presentation. We were fortunate to have amazing weather after a big rainstorm, so all was well.
Good thing my brother looks good in purple and gold because he's about to return to LSU for another 4 years. I see lots of care packages from Dallas in his future!

My mom photobombing my close up shot :)

We had Mother's Day brunch at Breadwinners in Northpark.  That is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to visit and I've already been back once last week. It is more spacious than my location in Uptown and it has a nice outdoor seating area with a big green lawn for kids (or adults) to run around in after eating.

We were joined by my parents' college/grad school friends.  They have known each other since college in Taiwan and then reconnected again when my dad was working on his PhD in Pennsylvania.  They truly go way back, and it is always nice to visit with them.

We also got our first Nothing Bundt Cake. So so delicious. I've eaten them a couple of times before, but it was the first time I purchased one. I will definitely be returning to this bakery. The white chocolate raspberry was sooo good. Can't wait to try the other flavors.

And there you have it! School = done. For now :)  Next up: study for boards and relax with my pup.  I had been hiding out in Louisiana for a little while, but made the trek back to Texas yesterday. Maybe I will attempt to chronicle my pictures and thoughts from the last 7 months soon...As you can see, procrastination hits me in all points in my life...Coming from a chronic to-do list maker...
